Baby Jay of the Month: Josh Banks

by Marc Hulet

Baby Jay of the Month for April: Josh Banks, New Hampshire Fisher Cats
Runner up for Baby Jay of the Month: Casey Janssen, Lansing Lugnuts

New Hampshire Fisher Cat’s right-handed starting pitcher Josh Banks was named BlueJayWay.ca’s Baby Jay of the Month for April.
Banks won the award after posting a 4-0 record, with a 2.05 ERA in 30.6 innings. He allowed 22 hits, while striking out 25 and walking only two batters. Opposing batters hit .204 against him.
Banks was drafted out of Florida International University in the second round of the 2003 amateur draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. Once considered a possible first round pick, he came down with a blister problem, which allowed the Jays to nab him with their second round pick.
He features a five-pitch repertoire that includes a 90-94 mph fastball, a slider, curveball, change-up and a plus splitter, which serves as his out pitch.
Banks, 22, told BlueJayWay.ca that command and consistency are the keys to his success.
"My strengths, I would say, are that I can throw five pitches for strikes and have pretty good command," he said. "(I have to) be consistent with my delivery as much as I can and with all my pitches."
Banks said he was not overly surprised by his success early this season because he worked diligently in spring training to improve his craft.
"I worked real hard in spring training on some minor mechanics and I think it has paid off so far," he said.
Upon signing with the Blue Jays, Banks had no problems dominating the short season New York Penn League as a member of the Auburn DoubleDays. He went 7-2 with a 2.43 ERA. Banks also racked up 81 strike outs in 67 innings and walked only 10 batters.
The next season he skipped a level and pitched for Dunedin in the Florida State League where he dominated with a 1.80 ERA in 60 innings.
He was then promoted to New Hampshire of the Eastern League where he struggled over an extended period for the first time in his pro career. In 91 innings, Banks posted a 5.03 ERA, while giving up 15 home runs.
His main problem came from elevating his pitches too much.
"Throwing a two-seam fastball and working on keeping the ball down for me is big," he said, adding that there are some differences between pitching to double-A hitters and single-A hitters.
"(You) can’t make as many mistakes and when you do they get hit."
Banks, who lives in Arnold, Maryland, grew up watching the Baltimore Orioles and his favourite pitcher Mike Mussina.

*A special thanks to Josh Banks for answering BlueJayWay.ca’s questions and also to John Zahr, media relations for the Fisher Cats, for helping to arrange everything.

Blue Jays Minor League Depth

We all know the Jays have some promising players, but what kind of depth does the organization have? Beyond oft-injured Guillermo Quiroz is there hope? What about left-handed pitching, considered by general manager J.P. Ricciardi to be the most glaring weakness in the organization when he took over.

The players were ranked by considering:
1. Stuff/Tools
2. Results
3. Playing Level
4. Age

Catchers
1. Guillermo Quiroz, AAA
2. Curtis Thigpen, A-
3. Robinzon Diaz, A+
4. Jonathan Jaspe, DSL
5. Erik Kratz, AA

Grade – B+
Analysis - The good news here is that the Jays have pretty good depth with an average to above-average catcher in three of their four clubs. Kratz profiles as more of a backup catcher, but given more playing time he could develop further. Jaspe is an intriguing prospect, who spent 2004 in the Dominican Summer League.

First Base
1. Chip Cannon, A-
2. Vito Chiaravalloti, AA
3. Joey Metropoulos, INJ
4. David Hicks, A-

Grade - C
Analysis – Despite signing three first basemen in the 2004 draft this position is still a weakness, especially with Eric Crozier being claimed off waivers. The Jays lack a true AAA first baseman and Chiaravalloti has struggled this season and did not dominate in 2004 either. Cannon has good power but has not hit consistently in low-A ball. A healthy Metropoulos would really help this ranking.

Second Base
1. Ryan Roberts, AA
2. Juan Peralta, A-
3. Carlo Cota, A+
4. Jason Alfaro, AAA
5. Jermy Acey, INJ

Grade – C+
Analysis – Roberts is the only player here who has even an outside shot of playing regularly in the majors, although I see him as a Scott Spiezio type with a little more power. Peralta is still young but his good 2005 numbers come as he repeats low-A ball after struggling mightily in 2004. Cota has sleeper potential but a demotion to high-A ball really deals a blow to his chances.

Third Base
1. John Hattig, AAA
2. Rob Cosby, AA
3. Leance Soto, R
4. Jesus Gonzalez, DSL
5. Eric Arnold, A+

Grade – C-
Analysis – Hattig’s return from an injury really helps this list. Even so, both corner infield positions are really lacking solid talent. Hattig is starting to get a little old to be considered a premium prospect but he has nice power potential. Cosby missed almost all of last year and has struggled to regain his consistency. He has below-average power for a third baseman. You know the depth is a problem when a player, Lee Soto, appears on the list despite never appearing in a pro game.

Shortstop
1. Aaron Hill*
2. Raul Tablado, AA
3. Ryan Klosterman, A-
4. Jason Armstrong, A-
5. Manuel Mayorson, A+

Grade – A* (with Hill) C+ (without Hill)
Analysis – The good news is that with Hill and current Jays’ shortstop Russ Adams, the position should be filled for quite some time. Behind them there is not a whole lot, especially with Tablado’s struggles this season. If he can get on track and show the power he displayed in 2004, the Jays will be all the better for it. Mayorson’s glove keeps him playing pro ball.

Outfield
1. John Ford Griffin, AAA
2. Gabe Gross*
3. Adam Lind, A+
4. Eric Nielsen, A-
5. David Smith, A+
6. Yuber Rodriguez, A-

Grade - B
Analysis – The organization has pretty solid depth here but they are hurt by the lack of a premium hitting prospect. There is no Delmon Young, Carlos Quentin or Felix Pie. What there is, though, is a plethora of solid all-around ballplayers.

Starting Pitchers (Right)
1. Francisco Rosario, AAA
2. Josh Banks, AA
3. Dustin McGowan, INJ
4. Brandon League, AAA
5. Shaun Marcum, AA
6. Casey Janssen, A+
7. Vince Perkins, AA
8. Ismael Ramirez, AA
9. Kyle Yates, A-
10. Mike MacDonald, A+

Grade – A-
Analysis – The Jays have a fairly good mix of pitchers (Rosario, League, McGowan) with premium stuff as well as pitchers (Marcum, Janssen) who have been successful with average stuff, brains and good command. Banks sort of falls in the middle, with better than average stuff as well as intangibles. Vince Perkins could end up as a very dominating closer.

Starting Pitchers (Left)
1. Zach Jackson, A+
2. David Purcey, A+
3. Chi-Hung Cheng, A-
4. Kurt Isenberg, A+
5. A.J. Wideman, A-
6. Daryl Harang, A-
7. Wil Aguirre, DSL
8. Francisco Mateo, DSL

Grade – B-
Analysis – The grading takes a big hit because there are no real impact lefties above high-A ball. That said, the pitcher in A ball are very promising but excitement should be tempered until they clear that double-A hurdle.

Relievers
1. Jason Arnold, AAA
2. Jamie Vermilyea, AA
3. Davis Romero, A+
4. Danny Hill, A-
5. Po-Hsuan Keng, A-
6. Ryan Houston, AA
7. Justin James, A+

Grade - C
Analysis – The Jays do not have a ton of dominating relief prospects but this list could get a lot more attractive as some starters are converted to the bullpen, much like Arnold was in 2005. Speaking of Arnold, his career has been resuscitated by the switch. Vermilyea is an interesting prospect to keel an eye on, as he could become a valuable reliever in the majors capable of proving multiple innings. Romero could become a dominating lefty specialist if he can harness his control.

Blue Jays 2004 Draft: A Look Back

It’s been almost a year since the Jays last dipped their toe into the amateur draft pool. With the 2005 draft about two weeks away, the 2004 draftees have been busy cementing a foothold in the organization for the last year, bracing for the impact of a new wave of promising prospects. The upper half of the Jays’ 2004 draft has produced some promising returns, at least early on.

David Purcey, First Round
Left-handed starter David Purcey, the first player taken by the Jays in 2004, is a big, strong pitcher who throws harder than most other southpaws. He features an 88-94 mph fastball, a curveball and a change-up.
Signed as a college senior, Purcey is a year older than most other college picks but is still considered raw.
His biggest problem in 2005, while pitching for Dunedin of the Florida State League, has been his control. In 40.3 innings in 2005, he has issued passes to 25 batters.
If Purcey cannot harness his stuff, he could develop into a dominating left-handed closer.

Zach Jackson, First Round Supplemental
Zach Jackson, another left-handed college starter, was the second player taken by the Jays. He was drafted in the supplemental first round, as compensation for the Angels signing pitcher Kelvim Escobar.
Jackson does not throw as hard as Purcey and his ceiling is not as high, but he is far more polished as a pitcher at this point of his career.
He has above-average command, which he has displayed in Dunedin this year by walking only six batters in 51.3 innings.
The biggest problem for Jackson has been allowing too many walks, often because he is always in the strike zone.
Jackson throws an 89-92 mph fastball, a change-up and a breaking ball, which needs to be more consistent.

Curtis Thigpen, Second Round
Second round pick Curtis Thigpen, a catcher, was a bit of a surprise pick when other highly-touted catchers, Kurt Suzuki and Jason Jaramillo, were still on the board. The Jays were intrigued by his athleticism and excellent makeup.
Playing at Lansing in 2005, his numbers have not been flashy but they have been solid. There are still a number of scouts who don’t think Thigpen will be able to play catcher everyday at the major league level, but he has enough bat to play elsewhere if the need should arise.
Thigpen’s hard-nosed attitude makes him a favourite of fans wherever he plays and could be a real sparkplug for the Jays. He has a good eye, patience at the plate and makes good contact. He also has some power potential but has yet to fully tap into it.
If he can improve his defence, and become even an average catcher, Thigpen could be an impact player in the Toronto Blue Jays’ lineup.

Adam Lind, Third Round
Adam Lind did not get a lot of fanfare coming into the draft but he has developed into perhaps the Jays’ best pure hitter.
He did not miss a beat in 2005 when he skipped a level and was placed in Dunedin of the Florida State League, leaving most of his 2004 Auburn teammates in Lansing.
Lind’s biggest weakness is his defence in leftfield and may soon be moved to first base.
The third round pick in 2004 also possesses below average power for either position, which could hurt his playing time at the major league level unless he develops into the next Mark Grace.
He has the potential to be a .300-plus hitter for the Jays and also has an excellent idea of the strike zone.

Casey Janssen, Fourth Round
Right-handed starting pitcher Casey Janssen was a fairly quiet signing as a college senior out of UCLA. One publication suggested at the time of his drafting that he was over-drafted to compensate for the Jays having to pay two first-round picks.
Regardless of the reason for his selection in the fourth round, Janssen has so far outperformed both Purcey and Jackson in both Dunedin and Lansing.
Coming into the 2004 draft, Janssen was considered unpolished as pitcher having spent most of his college career as a two-way player.
Since signing, though, Janssen has improved by leaps and bounds, posing a 1.37 ERA in 46 innings in Lansing. He has since been promoted to Dunedin, joining a prospect-heavy rotation and his impressive numbers have not dropped off.
He does not have the most dominating stuff, but Janssen mixes four pitches well: an 87-92 mph fastball, curveball, slider, and change-up.

Kyle Yates, Thirteenth Round
Kyle Yates, a right-handed pitcher, was signed out of the same college that produced second round pick Curtis Thigpen.
A 13th round pick, Yates started his pro career slowly in 2004 after battling the injury bug, but has really taken off in his first full pro season in 2005.
He was moved from the bullpen to the starting rotation and has flourished, especially as of late.
At 6’4’’ and 220 pounds, Yates is an excellent size for a starting pitcher and should be able to develop above-average stamina.
He throws an average fastball, which he compliments with a breaking ball and a change-up. Yates also has excellent control, having walked only nine batters in 53.3 innings.

Mike MacDonald, Fifteenth Round
Former 15th round pick Mike MacDonald does not wow scouts, but no one can argue with his early pro success.
He lacks the electric stuff that Purcey brings to the table, but MacDonald has moved just as quickly as the first round pick mainly due to excellent control and knowing how to pitch.
MacDonald currently resides in the Dunedin rotation along with fellow 2004 draftees Purcey, Jackson and Janssen, as well as 2003 draftee and left-handed pitcher Kurt Isenberg.
MacDonald has a below average fastball, which sits between 86-89 mph, but he locates it well and mixes it with a breaking ball and a change-up.
Many soft-tossers have success in the low minors so he will have to continue to prove himself at each level and his future may lie in the bullpen.

Sleepers:
Ryan Klosterman, SS - He has not been as heralded a pick as other recently-drafted shortstops, such as Russ Adams or Aaron Hill, but Klosterman has a ton of potential.
The fifth round pick has shown good power for a middle infielder, has solid patience at the plate and possesses above-average speed.

Chip Cannon, 1B – He has shown good power as a member of the Blue Jays’ minor league system but Cannon has struggled to make consistent contact in Lansing this season.

Eric Nielsen, OF – Nielsen got off to a painfully slow start in Lansing this season but has since turned it on and was one of the Jays’ best minor league hitters in May. He is starting to tap into his home run potential.

Joey Metropoulos, 1B – In 2004, Super Man showed off what is considered by many to be the best raw power of any player in the Jays’ system. A broken leg, though, has put a temporary hold on Metropoulos’ career.

Brian Hall, 2b – Hall shocked a lot of people when he went on a home run tear for Auburn after he was drafted in 2004. The big question coming into 2005 was whether or not the homer streak was a fluke. Labrum surgery means that the answer will have to wait until 2006.

Danny Hill, RHP – Hill has spent the initial part of the minor league season closing for Lansing, although he profiles as more of a setup man in the majors. As a college senior draft pick, Hill is older than most of his competition and needs to be challenged with a promotion.

The Blue Jays have a promising crop of minor leaguers. The quality hitters are sprinkled throughout the system while the Jays have some impressive pitchers almost ready for the majors in triple-A and double-A. They also have some intriguing arms in the lower minors who are not quite as polished. The biggest weakness in the system is a lack of power hitting position players.

Pitchers’ Stats: ERA, Innings Pitched, Hits Allowed, Walks-Strikeouts
Hitters’ Stats: Average, On Base Average, Slugging Percentage, Homers, Stolen Bases

1. SS – Aaron Hill (Syracuse)
Height: 6’0’’ Weight: 200
Age: 23 Signed: 2003
2004: .280 .369 .411 479 11 3 (AA)

Notes: Since his college days, Hill as been an excellent leader on the fielder and he has a hard-nosed attitude that managers love. He has a good arm but lacks above-average range at shortstop, which could necessitate a position change to either third base or second base. He doesn’t hit a lot of homers right now, but Hill projects to add power as he matures as a hitter. He handles the bat extremely well.

2. RHP Francisco Rosario (Syracuse)
Height: 6’0’’ Weight: 195
Age: 24 Signed: 1999
Repertoire: 92-97 fastball, plus change, slurve
2004: 4.31 48 48 19-45 (AA)
4.67 17 16 11-16 (A+)

Notes: There is no arguing that Rosario has dominating stuff, but he needs to be more consistent. Improved fastball command would also help. He could end up in the bullpen if he does not improve his breaking ball.

3. Brandon League RHP (Syracuse)
Height: 6’2’’ Weight: 180
Age: 22 Signed: 2001
Repertoire: 94-96 fastball, slider, change
2004: 3.38 104 92 41-90 (AA)
0.00 5 3 1-2 (MLB)

Notes: League, who can occasionally hit 100 on the radar, is a native of Hawaii. He made the Jays out of spring training this year but really struggled. He needs better command, a more consistent off-speed pitch and confidence if he hopes to succeed.

4. C Guillermo Quiroz (Syracuse DL)
Height: 6’1’’ Weight: 210
Age: 23 Signed: 1999
2004: .227 .309 .404 255 8 0 (AAA)
.212 .263 .250 52 0 1 (MLB)

Notes: Quiroz was considered a good field, no hit catcher early on in his career but his bat caught up with the rest of his game in 2003. Despite a strong arm, Quiroz showed some weaknesses in his overall defence during a short major league stint in 2004. He may not hit better than .250-.260 in the majors but he has good power. A collapsed lung will keep him on the disabled list for most of 2005.

5. RHP Dustin McGowan (Rehabbing)
Height: 6’3’’ Weight: 190
Age: 23 Signed: 2000
Repertoire: 94-96 MPH fastball, slider, curve, change
2004: 4.06 31 24 15-29 (AA)

Notes: McGowan was the Jays best prospect and probably only a few of months away from the major leagues when he blew out his elbow and needed Tommy John surgery in 2004. He should begin pitching in games very soon and will hopefully return to his old form and showcase his blazing fastball.

6. OF/1B Adam Lind (Dunedin)
Height: 6’2’’ Weight: 190
Age: 21 Signed: 2004
2004: .308 .367 .474 266 7 1 (NYP)

Notes: Perhaps the best overall hitter in the system, Lind could move quickly. He doesn’t have the power that scouts look for from a first baseman or left fielder, but he has the potential to hit a lot of doubles and maintain a .300 average. He also has a good eye at the plate and doesn’t strikeout much. His defence needs work.

7. RHP Josh Banks (New Hampshire)
Height: 6’3’’ Weight: 195
Age: 22 Signed: 2003
Repertoire: 91-94 fastball, plus split, 80-82 slider, curve, change
2004: 5.03 91 89 28-76 (AA)
1.80 60 49 8-60 (A+)

Notes: Banks had some trouble adjusting to the better hitters in double-A after a mid-season promotion in 2004. So far in 2005, however, he has dominated. He gets into trouble when he doesn’t have good command of his fastball. His slider needs some work, as it can get slurvy at times.

8. Gabe Gross OF (Syracuse)
Height: 6’3’’ Weight: 210
Age: 25 Signed: 2001
2004: .294 .381 .454 377 9 4 (AAA)
.209 .311 .310 129 3 2 (MLB)

Notes: Gross got off to a hot start in spring training in 2005 by showing more power than he has in his career to date. He made the Jays opening day roster but was soon sent back to Syracuse to work on his game and get consistent playing time. He possesses a football mentality and works hard but he will have to continue to hit homers to be a productive left fielder in the major leagues.

9. LHP David Purcey (Dunedin)
Height: 6’5’’ Weight: 240
Age: 23 Signed: 2004
Repertoire: 88-94 fastball, plus curve, change
2004: 1.50 12 6 1-13 (NYP)

Notes: Already 23 - after being a senior college pick – Purcey needs to move quickly but he is considered unpolished by many scouts. He has a very good fastball for a left hander, but his control is suspect and he is still more of a thrower than a pitcher.

10. DH - John-Ford Griffin (Syracuse)
Height: 6’2’’ Weight: 215
Age: 25 Signed: 2001
2004: .248 .330 .454 467 22 1 (AA)

Notes: Griffin may play some first base this season because he has a very poor throwing arm. A former first round pick by Yankees, Griffin has struggled against good pitching. He hit more than .400 in college so potential is there, but his average dropped significantly as his power increased. He needs to balance out the two aspects of his game better.

11. RHP Vince Perkins (New Hampshire)
Height: 6’5’’ Weight: 220
Age: 23 Signed: 2001
Repertoire: 93-95 fastball, 87-89 slider, change
2004: 3.95 55 53 24-47 (A+)

Notes: Perkins, a Canadian, is a former teammate of Oakland’s Rich Harden. Perkins’ most pressing areas for improvement are his conditioning, to stay healthy, and his command. His blazing fastball makes him a candidate for the bullpen if his command and secondary pitches do not improve.

12. RHP Shaun Marcum (New Hampshire)
Height: 6’0’’ Weight: 175
Age: 23 Signed: 2003
Repertoire: 87-92 fastball, plus slider, curve, change
2004: 3.12 69 74 4-72 (A+)
3.19 79 64 16-83 (A-)

Notes: Marcum spent most of college career focusing on shortstop, while also pitching out of the bullpen. He is still learning how to pitch but the results so far have been excellent. He has great control and a plus slider.

13. LHP Zach Jackson (Dunedin)
Height: 6’5’’ Weight: 230
Age: 22 Signed: 2004
Repertoire: 89-92 fastball, change, slurve
2004: 5.40 15 20 6-11 (NYP)

Notes: He doesn’t throw as hard as Purcey does, but Jackson has a better idea how to pitch and his command is more consistent. He could move quickly through the minor leagues.

14. C Curtis Thigpen (Lansing)
Height: 6’1’’ Weight: 200
Age: 22 Signed: 2004
2004: .301 .388 .518 166 7 1 (NYP)

Notes: Thigpen was a bit of a surprise as a second round draft pick in 2004, but he has impressed the Jays with his hitting. He needs to work on his defence though and overall consistency.

15. RHP Ismael Ramirez (New Hampshire)
Height: 6’3’’ Weight: 200
Age: 24 Signed: 1999
Repertoire: 90-92 fastball, change, slurve
2004: 2.72 165 151 25-131 (A+)

Notes: Ramirez biggest weakness is his lack of a consistent out pitch. He may be better suited for the bullpen in majors but he has definitely improved his stock in the past year.

16. RHP Jason Arnold (Syracuse)
Height: 6’3’’ Weight: 210
Age: 26 Signed: 2001
Repertoire: 87-90 fastball, plus change, below average slider
2004: 3.65 37 40 12-15 (AAA)
3.15 20 17 5-14 (AA)

Notes: The former second round pick was almost out of chances coming into 2005. He was switched to the bullpen and his early numbers have been very impressive. Arnold, who was a reliever in college, could be a valuable piece of a major league bullpen.

17. LHP Chi-Hung Cheng (Lansing)
Height: 6’1’’ Weight: 195
Age: 20 Signed: 2003
Repertoire: 86-90 fastball, curve, change
2004: 4.50 2 1 0-3 (NYP)
2.82 61 47 35-74 (Rookie)

Notes: Despite a below-average fastball, Cheng has carved up hitters in the low minors. He has OK command and a good curveball. Cheng is young enough to add some zip on his fastball, which could make him an even better prospect.

18. CF Yuber Rodriguez (Lansing)
Height: 6’1’’ Weight: 192
Age: 21 Signed: 2001
2004: .309 .396 .502 249 7 9 (R)

Notes: Rodriguez is one of the rawest hitters in the Jays’ system but he also possesses the best potential of any hitter. He flashes five tools and could end up hitting a lot of home runs in the majors if he continues to develop.

19. Raul Tablado SS (New Hampshire)
Height: 6’2’’ Weight: 170
Age: 23 Signed: 2000
2004: .303 .354 585 323 21 0 (A+)

Notes: Tablado turned the corner in 2004 after three dismal seasons with the bat. 2005 will be a telling year and we should find out if his power surge was for real. He could end up playing third base in the major leagues. He strikes out a lot and does not walk much.

20. RHP Casey Janssen (Lansing)
Height: 6’4’’ Weight: 210
Age: 23 Signed: 2004
Repertoire: 87-92 fastball, curve, slider, change
2004: 3.60 50 46 10-43 (NYP)

Notes: The secret to Janssen’s success is that he has a large repertoire of pitches and he has excellent command. His ceiling is somewhat limited by the fact he doesn’t throw very hard on a consistent basis.

21. RHP Jamie Vermilyea (New Hampshire)
Height: 6’4’’ Weight: 195
Age: 23 Signed: 2003
Repertoire: 88-92 fastball, plus slider, splitter, curve
2004: 3.09 55 54 13-37 (A+)
2.47 58 43 12-39 (AA)

Notes: Vermilyea doesn’t throw hard but he has done nothing but get guys out since signing. He threw a seven-inning perfect game in double-A last season.

22. C Robinzon Diaz (Dunedin)
Height:5’11’ Weight: 180
Age: 21 Signed: 2001
2004: .287 .342 .361 407 2 10 (A-)

Notes: Diaz has always been a fairly good hitter and makes solid contact. However, he needs to be more patient at the plate and his defence needs improvement. He has excellent speed for a catcher and has experiment playing other positions to improve his value.

23. LHP A.J. Wideman (Lansing)
Height: 5’11’’ Weight: 195
Age: 20 Signed: 2003
Repertoire: 88-91 fastball, curve. change
2004: 1.81 44.6 26 13-38 (NYP)

Notes: A Canadian, Wideman has a good curveball but his fastball is no more than average. Despite his young age and inexperience, he knows how to pitch and has had success in the low minors. He needs pinpoint control to survive and may end up as a situational lefty in the majors.

24. 1B Vito Chiaravalloti (New Hampshire)
Height: 6’3’’ Weight: 220
Age: 24 Signed: 2003
2004: .267 .378 .439 446 14 0 (A+)

Notes: Chiaravalloti was hitting very well last season until he faded and his numbers plummeted in August. He needs better conditioning to survive the long season. Chiaravalloti also needs to improve his consistency and especially his power output if he is going to play first base in the major leagues.

25. IF John Hattig (Syracuse DL)
Height: 6’2’’ Weight: 210
Age: 25 Signed: 1999
2004: .296 .391 .532 406 22 2 (AA)

Notes: Hattig gets on-base fairly well, as seen in 2004, but he struggles against good pitching. Despite his age, Hattig needs more time to develop consistency. His power continues to develop as he gets older and stronger.
